The next article in this series is going to be a brief article on how you can use different strings to get back results containing different file formats. Certain file formats can be useful for a variety of things Excell spreadsheets can come in handy for people running a business. People who like to read documents that can be printed out instead of from their computers might prefer to search for information in PDF format. Powerpoint documents are another great way to learn, these slide shows can be extremely powerful.
These strings are a little bit different than the ones in the previous article. Instead of typing the string before your search term you must type it afterwards. For example if I wanted to search for a document in PDF format I would type in internet marketing filetype:pdf you must remember though always type the search term followed by a space then filetype:(whatever document you want to search for and there is no space in between the colon and the filetype you want to search for. So just to show you one more time, “internet marketing” that is going to be my search term, then you type the filetype. It would look like this, internet marketing filetype:pdf.

As one of the most important ranking factors on today’s modern search engines, link popularity starting to gain public exposure, the misinformation about what link popularity is and what it isn’t also starting to grow. Everyday thousand of new webmasters jump head first into their first search engine optimization project after reading a few SEO forum posts or news articles.
Unfortunately these new webmasters have only a partial view of the search engine optimization process and link building that will actually produce lasting results on the top three search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN. The key I would like to emphasize here is achieving and maintaining “lasting results”. If your want your website to do well on the search engines even 5 years from now, it’s imperative you play by the rules and gain as much understanding about safe and effective link popularity building as possible.

As webmasters are well aware, getting traffic is one thing; retaining that traffic can often be the tricky part. Surely we’ve all run across sites from time to time that were easy to stumble upon, but then made us scratch our head wondering how in the holy heck it got there, and what in the world did it do to deserve such choice rankings or links from other worthy sites. Unfortunately for webmasters, there isn’t any one formula for a tacky site people won’t ever want to step foot in again. There are however, several things that can be done to prevent that dreaded situation.
Boost Your Content It goes without saying that you cannot just have a website with the basic “Home”, “FAQ”, “About Us”, and “Contact” pages. Those represent grease on the wheel, so to speak. Having just those pages will make for one terribly boring site, while omitting them will make for a choppy site where people are bound to get stuck without these important navigation tools. Always include these whenever possible!
What is Link Popularity? March 29, 2007

Link popularity is simply the total number of web pages that link to your web page. Link popularity is an extremely important factor that is used by most of the major search engines to rank web pages and web sites. In general, the major search engines consider link popularity a key factor in their algorithms to determine the relevancy of your web page to a particular keyword search query.
Good link popularity is important because it can increase the visitor traffic to your web page. The reputation of your web site (i.e., votes of confidence from other web sites) is a measure of the site’s link popularity. Your web page rank (i.e., the position your web page occupies in a search engine’s results page) to a particular search query can be improved by increasing the number of relevant and quality web sites that have incoming links to your web page.

There’s a simple idea in the world of online business that everyone agrees with: more people see your web site = more potential customers = more business.
But beyond this simple point, agreement among internet know-hows tends to go out the window. Almost every webmaster has an opinion on the best way to increase web site traffic – and surprisingly, not many of them agree.
There are probably many reasons for this lack of agreement. But of the many, there are two unquestionable big ones. The first reason most online advice-givers don’t agree on how to increase web site traffic is that there’s not one perfect way to go about it. Web site traffic can be successfully improved in a handful of different ways.
Let Your Audience Do The Work When It Comes To Building Link Popularity March 27, 2007

Building link popularity is one of the most important elements of search engine optimisation and also one of the most time-consuming. It amazes me that I still receive countless emails from so called SEO experts inviting me to participate in link exchanges. Some of them even offering to swap links with a site totally unrelated to what we do! No wonder our industry comes under such fire.
Let’s go back to basics and understand the concept of linking. Linking in its simplest form is about taking a user on a stage in their online journey, whether it be to find a product, piece of news and information or to learn something new. Now most of the time we know what we are looking for online, so our session has a goal, and with that goal in mind we look to trawl the web and put our trust in navigating around websites till we achieve our goal. Sometimes it can take minutes and a straight forward visit to a search engine and a destination site, other times it can takes us hours, with a journey that takes us in and out of a number of different websites.

Link popularity is also known as link building, link exchanging, inbound links etc. It refers to the quality and quantity of incoming links to your site. It is a very important part of the search engine optimization process and plays an important role for getting high search engine rankings on specific keywords.
It is not enough to go for quantity of inbound links when building high link popularity. The quality of inbound links is much more important than quantity for getting that high link popularity. In other words, having a lower number of quality inbound links is more valuable than having a large quantity of poor links in for SEO.
